Notice to Families: Scheduled Fumigation at Ritchen School

Dear Ritchen School Families,

In accordance with the California Healthy Schools Act and Oxnard School District’s Integrated Pest Management (IPM) program, we want to inform you that Ritchen School will undergo a structural fumigation from April 3–6, 2026, to address a termite infestation.

This treatment is necessary to maintain a safe, clean, and structurally sound learning environment for our students and staff.

Why is fumigation needed?

Routine inspections identified significant termite damage in parts of the school. Fumigation is the most effective way to eliminate this issue. A licensed contractor will apply Vikane (sulfuryl fluoride) in compliance with all state and federal safety regulations.

Important Safety Information

  • No students, staff, or visitors will be allowed on campus during fumigation.
  • Warning signs will be posted before and after treatment.
  • The building will only reopen once air quality is tested and confirmed safe by licensed professionals.

What this means for families

  • There will be no access to the school during April 3–6, 2026.
  • All activities and use of the campus will resume only after clearance and cleaning are complete.
  • Custodial teams will clean the site before students and staff return.

 Re-entry

Fumigation and aeration are expected to be completed by the end of the day on April 6, 2026, followed by safety clearance. School use will resume only after all safety standards are met.
